Like most things these days, THQ Nordic Gamescom surprise leaked a couple of days prematurely (in this case, it both a German magazine and an early Amazon listing that gave us the head’s up), but it’s finally been officially announced: Biomutant.

Described as a post-apocalyptic, open-world kung-fu, action role-playing game (yes, really), Biomutant is being developed by Experiment 101, an independent game development studio co-founded in 2015 by Stefan Ljungqvist, a former studio art director and game director at Avalanche Studios and one of the key members on the team behind Mad Max and the Just Cause series.

Here’s some pictures of very cute animals doing seemingly terrible things to each other.

Here’s how it’s described on the press release: “Biomutant unique design lets players change their character’s abilities and appearance with powerful mutations, bionic prosthetics and weapons. Grow claws, sprout wings, or attach a robotic leg – each choice will impact the way your hero plays in real-time combat that blends melee martial arts and firearms.

“Set in an imaginative post-apocalyptic universe, Biomutant is a kung fu fable filled with fantastic creatures to discover, dangerous factions to navigate, and colorful worlds to explore with mechs, paragliders, balloons, mounts, jet skis and more.”

There’s no release date as yet other than a vague 2018. Biomutant will come to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Short. Sweary. Sarky. Streamer. Spartan. Story-driven games make me happiest. Spectacularly bad at shooters, but loves them. Screams a lot playing horror games, but loves those, too.
