An image purported to be of the as yet unannounced next Assassin’s Creed game game has popped up online.
Rumours have been circulating for some time that the next instalment – expected to come to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One – was thought to have been subtitled Empire. More recent reports, however – subsequently confirmed by sources close to Eurogamer – intimate it’ll be called Assassin’s Creed: Origins. And now a screenshot allegedly from the new game has turned up on Reddit.
The image is (obviously) not officially sanctioned by Ubisoft, and appears to show the latest AC protagonist on a rustic boat tasked with assassinating a crocodile, although whether that pertains to the reptile or a person called Crocodile, we’ve yet to ascertain.
Additional text instructs the player to “Follow Shadya to Khenut’s villa”. Interestingly enough, Khenut was a real historical Queen of Egypt, married to King Unas and thought to have been the mother on Queen Iput I (no, that’s not a typo) around the time of the Fifth dynasty of Egypt (thank Christ for Wikipedia). This potentially helps us estimate at what historical timeframe the game is expected to take place.
So: there it is, our first glimpse of Assassin’s Creed: Origin, albeit it a fully unofficial, crap-quality one. What do you think?
