Ubisoft has today announced The Division, a new film project starring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal that is – unsurprisingly – based upon the shooter game released earlier this year.

Little else is known about the project except Ubisoft Motion Pictures will develop the project with Gyllenhaal’s and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories Productions, and Chastain’s Freckle Films.

“We are excited to collaborate with Jessica and Jake, two of Hollywood’s most talented actors and perfect creative collaborators to help bring Tom Clancy’s The Division to the big screen,” said Gerard Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures (yes, that’s a thing – it was set up in 2011 “to expand the popularity of Ubisoft’s game brands to television and film”.)

“Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film,” he added.

The Assassin’s Creed movie is expected to release December 21, 2016.

Other Ubi games being taken to the silver screen include movies based on Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and even Rabbids.

Short. Sweary. Sarky. Streamer. Spartan. Story-driven games make me happiest. Spectacularly bad at shooters, but loves them. Screams a lot playing horror games, but loves those, too.
